Homebrew Stands

Custom homebrew stands...

Configuring your own custom homebrew stand is now easier.  Use the following guidelines to create the brewing sculpture that works best for you.  As always, feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.

Gravity Homebrew Sculptures

A = Height from floor to top of burner box A
This will be your boil kettle tier.  For a gravity feed to your fermenter, we usually recommend 24", though other heights may work.  Just be sure your kettle will rest above your fermenter.  Minimum height is 16" from the floor.

B = Height from floor to top of burner box B
Your Mash Tun tier will need to be at or above the top of your boil kettle.  For instance, if your "A" height is 24", and your boil kettle is 16" tall, your "B" height will need to be at least 40"

C = Height from top of burner box A to top of burner box C
For Your Hot Liquor Tank, you will want the height to be flush or over the top of your mash tun.  To get this value, add "B" + the height of your Mash Tun, and subtract "A".  Again, if your Mash Tun is 16" tall, add 40" + 16" - 24" = 32"
In some cases (more common in pump sculptures), you will want to account for the burner and mount which is about 6"-8" from the top of "C".  Be sure that your boil kettle will not interfere, and allow a little extra room for access to things such as a wort chiller.

A+C = Confirm overall height
Double check your overall height to make sure it is correct with what you expect your gravity homebrew stand to be.  In this case, 24" + 32" = 56" overall height of your stand.

D = Spacer between burner shelf and main support
Our burner shelves are 16" diameter, with a 10" open area in the center.  You can accommodate wider size brewing vessels by adding more spacing between the shelf and the main support.  The best way to figure this would be by taking your tank diameter and subtracting 16, and then take that value and divide by 2.  For instance, a 20" kettle - the 16" burner shelf width = 4".  Divided by 2 = 2".  A 2" spacer in this case would allow you to center your kettle with a slight overhang around all sides.  Minimum spacer is 1" maximum is 3"  In the case of our hard piped manifold stands, all spacers must = the same size.

E = distance from top of burner to top of burner shelf
In most cases we recommend around 5".  In cases where you are using tanks with recessed bottoms such as converted keggles, you may want to go a touch closer.

Other things to consider may include which side you want your casters, and which side you want your plumbing.  If you have a preference on which side you want your plumbing, look at it from the perspective of where your lowest tier is. In the case of this picture, your lowest tier would be on the left side.

Other options may always be available.

Pump / Compact Homebrew Sculptures

A = Height from floor to top of burner box A
In most cases for pump systems, "A" would be your HLT located below your Mash Tun "C", so that you can pump feed your sparge water up to your Mash Tun above.  To provide minimal height on the overall stand, it is ideal to keep this tier as low as you feel comfortable with crouching on the ground to light the burner.  Minimum height is 14" from the floor, and we would recommend this height.

B = Height from floor to top of burner box B
If you are pump feeding your HLT to your Mash, this shelf is a great place for your boil kettle.  Keeping this shelf level above your fermenter height will still allow you to gravity feed your wort right in to your fermenter usually without affecting the overall height of the stand..  Minimum height on this tier is also 14", and must have at least a difference of 6" from Shelf "A"

C = Height from top of burner box A to top of burner box C
In this case, we would be using the top tier as your Mash Tun.  While a pump system will allow you to run multiple combinations, this is a common set up for a pump fed system.  It is important to take in to consideration the size of the tank you will be using on shelf "A," and allow some clearance from the possible 8" burner support from the top of the burner box above.  It's also nice to add enough cushion to allow you to access the tank on shelf "A" to accommodate a heat exchange coil etc.  We recommend using the height of your tank on "A" + about 18" for this value.  Also, take in to account shelf "B".  If "A" + "C" is equal to or greater than your Tank on "B" plus the height on "B" you should still be able to gravity feed your mash (if that's your top tier), to your boil kettle.

A+C = Confirm overall height
Double check your overall height to make sure it is correct with what you expect your gravity homebrew stand to be.

Remember, the scenarios here represent limited options in what you can do with a pump fed system.  When using a pump, your options are almost endless.  You can put your vessels on any location, so long as you know what you will be pumping.
